The Zoo

Instead of visiting a museum, I visited the zoo. Partially because I volunteer there, and partially because I love it, I end up spending a good part of my summer at the zoo. I think/know my concentration will be about animals and nature so it fit pretty well. Although its predictable and probably annoying that I talk about the zoo too much, its a huge part of my inspiration. I took some pictures that show some of the stuff that inspires me at the zoo. I especially like looking at the textures of animal fur, the skeletal anatomy, and the weird facial characteristics of exotic animals. I am not much of a photographer, but here are some pictures that I took throughout the years...

Summer Stuff

I didn't do much actual sculpture this summer, mostly due to material constraints. When I thinking of things to do, I asked around and decided to do something like the little animals that I did sophomore year using some crayola clay I had lying around. I did a whale (my favorite, based off of my rudimentary drawing), a hippo, an owl, and a penguin. I like the whale and the hippo the best, while the penguin is okay, and the owl is quite dismal, so I decided to not even waste space with it. I don't know if I plan to do anything like this for my portfolio (most likely not), but it was good to get working with clay again. They are much more silly than serious.... not intense AT ALLLLLL...
